Thomas Sutton Overview

I have several years of experience in product design, developing the projects shown on this website. My work includes creating complex CAD models in SolidWorks, producing technical drawings, building and testing functional prototypes, and supporting products from concept through to production-ready designs. I have delivered components using injection moulding, silicone casting, and 3D printing, while producing assembly documentation, Bills of Materials, and tooling prototypes. Collaborating with production teams, engineers, project managers, and suppliers has strengthened my understanding of the full product development process. I have trained staff on assembly procedures and led sustainability initiatives

CAD

Strong ability in SolidWorks for surface modelling, technical drawings, and advanced assemblies. I have some experience with a range of other CAD software such as Rhino, SketchUp, and Fusion 360..

Skill Set

3D Printing

Experience with FDM and SLS printing, including preparing models and producing functional parts for prototyping and testing.

Work Shop

Experience using a wide range of workshop tools, equipment, materials and processes to support design development and manufacturing tasks.

Cross-Team Collaboration

Worked closely with engineering, production, and suppliers to transition from functional prototypes to mass-manufactured products.

DFM Principles

Understanding of DFM principles, designing components for efficient manufacturing, cost reduction, and ease of assembly across processes such as injection moulding and 3D printing.

Testing

Experience in testing and evaluating products, identifying issues, and implementing improvements based on performance and user feedback.
