The Gazebo
An old treehouse in my parents’ backyard became increasingly unstable as the supporting tree grew. The project aimed to reuse the treehouse wood to transform a previously inaccessible part of the garden into a functional outdoor space.
We levelled the uneven ground using railway sleepers and carefully disassembled the treehouse. Using the reclaimed wood, I built a safe, practical, and inviting space on otherwise unusable land.
Railway sleepers were used to level the ground, and all other materials were recycled from the existing treehouse. The supporting structure became the gazebo frame, floorboards were reused, and splintered wood was cut into roof shingles. A secondhand bench was added as a chain swing. The project was low-cost and successfully turned an unused garden area into a functional and inviting space.
